VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Multiple positions are opening up, as we continue to grow towards our goals! Contact AWP if you want to be considered for a position.

NOTE All volunteers MUST  be active members of AWP with $20 annual dues paid. Students and interns do not have to pay dues.
Must also complete ALL required paperwork, before achieving position.

  • BUSINESS MANAGER:
    Minimum two year commitment. About 40 hours per month.

    AWP is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented individual with strong leadership and Project Management skills to coordinate our business operations. The ideal volunteer will be able to work with all areas of our organization and be able to align business operations with the overall goals of the President, Board of Directors, Grant Writers, Event Teams, and Volunteers. This person will be responsible for insuring that schedules are maintained and deadlines are complied with, to allow for smooth operation of the entire organization.

  • DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT:
    Minimum two year commitment. 40 hours per month. 

    Do you have a passion for fund raising, and finding ways to produce wealth?  AWP needs strong financial support in order to grow to its fullest!   These positions will allow you to grow as you build and maintain relationships in the community, and help to seek donors.  You will also create and lead Fund Raising initiatives, plus track their progress.  This candidate will meet regularly with our Grant Writers, the Special Events team, and the President and Board of Directors.  Beneficial if you understand horses and dogs, but not totally necessary.

  • ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER COORDINATORS:
    Minimum one year commitment. 8 hours per month.

    A number of enthusiastic, tenacious, detail oriented people are needed to assist in managing our volunteer staff. This positions works under the Volunteer Coordinator. It will include jobs such as insuring paperwork is up-to-date, collecting number of monthly hours volunteered, and helping cultivate volunteers for events or operations. Recruitment of new volunteers is accomplished electronically.

  • GRANT WRITER:
    Minimum one year commitment. About 10 hours per month. 
    Animal Welfare Project has initiated a Fund Raising Team. We are in need of dedicated and mature volunteers, who can meet regularly to fill out grant applications. You will work under the direction of our Grant Coordinator. No grant research required.

  • PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR:
    Minimum one year commitment. About 5 hours per month.
    We are seeking a dynamic, dedicated, skilled individual who enjoys conceptualizing and marketing ideas.  Your goal will be to promote and market AWP to the community, and show off our many functions and facets.  We want to grow our membership!  So you should be able to write a Press Release and distribute it (using our extensive, up-to-date database or a trained volunteer). Also handle media inquiries, and enjoy being interviewed by the media as our spokesperson.  The top candidate should understand horses and dogs!

  • SPONSOR LIAISON:
    Minimum one year commitment. About 8 hours per month.
    Enthusiastic, outgoing individual needed to interface with existing AWP Sponsors and develop new sponsor relationships. The ideal volunteer will be able to work independently and will represent AWP in a professional manner. This person will be the “public face” of AWP for our sponsors. If you have leadership skills, you can even develop your own Sponsor Team!

  • EVENT PRODUCTION:
    Minimum one year commitment. About 15 hours per month.
    Producing multiple Fund Raisers and events, with the help of a great team of volunteers. Will work under a Coordinator and meet often (physically or by video conferencing). Productions include Wine & Cheese Benefit, Art& Fashion Show, Winter Gala, Summer Picnic, Volunteer Party, Animal Adoption Day, Open Houses, etc.

  • DATABASE ASSISTANT:
    Minimum one year commitment. About 8 hours per month.
    Assist the Database Czar in keeping up with details so we stay organized! Should be mature, detail-oriented, and enjoy computer work. Will help produce mailings and fix postage returns. Will continuously update contacts, animal rescues, etc.

  • BOARD MEMBER: 
    Minimum three year commitment. About 20 hours per month. Donation or effort involving financial support is expected.
    We are seeking WORKING Board Members as we continue to grow. Applicants should have a background of professional skills (such as business, legal, accounting, Public Relations, Marketing, etc) and be willing to help us meet our growth goals. Board Members are expected to participate in at least 10 meetings annually as well as assist in producing our annual fund raisers. A strong interest in animals is expected. You will be working with animal professionals on a regular basis.

  • HORSE GROOM:
    Minimum one year commitment. About 12 hours per month.
    Do you enjoy caring for horses, and have a knowledgeable horse background? “Windsor” is our Equine Ambassador for AWP. His job for community service is to perform Mounted Search and Rescue --- and he needs a groom! Your job will be to keep him looking spectacular, plus help keep his equipment and clothing spotless and tidy. Plus you can join us as we present him during events!

    You should have strong experience grooming and riding, plus be comfortable working around large horses. Draft horse experience not necessary, but definitely a plus as he is a big guy! You might work alone or in conjunction with his riders.  Although he already has a schedule, you may occasionally be asked to ride him also, to help keep him fit.  (You will first be reviewed for your abilities, to make sure it is a good fit).

    Windsor and his riders also need to go places while they are training.  So if you have experience driving trailers (AWP owns a duelly and gooseneck), you can further support his situation.

  • OFFICE SUPPORT STAFF:
    Minimum one year commitment. About 3 hours per week.
    Assisting in the AWP office as we work on varying projects. Should have basic computer skills and be a go-getter. Great situation for the project oriented person, because once jobs are complete, you move onto another. Should enjoy working with animals lounging at your feet.

    Current projects include:
    • Basic Office Support: Keeping up with the many tasks that make the AWP office hum. Should have basic computer skills, take direction, and genuinely enjoy being helpful.
    • Assistant to Fundraisers: Helping with tasks leading up to all fund raisers, such as the upcoming Gala.
    • Contact local banks concerning "Community Reinvestment Act": This feature provides that 5% of bank profits are to be returned to the community. AWP needs to meet with bankers, so they become aware of our altruistic efforts.
    • Contact calls to estate lawyers at small or large firms: Inquire about potential funding from clients, and encourage awareness of AWP.
    • Soliciting sponsors for different support items: Such as acquiring a Trail Corral or Dressage Ring. Or gear and equipment for Mounted Search & Rescue, Dog Agility jumps, etc.
    • Scanning: Keep AWP coordinated with scanning of photos and papers that need to be filed, so they are available for electronic access later.
